Look 785 Huez RS Disc: Confident Descents and Lightweight Climbs
Before disc brakes became so commonly available on road bikes, we all probably felt super secure on rim brakes. That is, until we didn’t. Descending in the rain? Not so much. Descending serpentine climbs with vertiginous drop-offs? Not so much. And if you have been riding carbon rim wheels, it’s likely your experiences have been even more harrowing once things start to get too wet or too hot. Well, with the Look 785 Huez RS Disc road bike, you can enjoy the confidence disc brakes offer you in all conditions while still having a blast on a lightweight bike tailor-made for tough climbs.
Look have done a great job making the 785 Huez RS Disc look just so cool. The paint job screams nostalgia for the days of the Cannibal and the first clipless pedals. But with a weight of just 910 grams for a disc brake frame, this is a bike made at the cutting edge of carbon technology. They have managed these impressive numbers by using five specific types of high quality carbon, and looking at how they could shape the tubes to offer the precise ride qualities they’d like, which would then save weight and provide that all important stiffness to weight ratio. They were determined to make it a very efficient lightweight frame with the best possible ride characteristics.
Speed Release Technology for Secure Wheel Connection used in the 785 Huez RS Disc
Taking into account the stronger forces disc brakes will exert on the frame and fork, they have had to beef up the lay up in certain places compared to the rim brake version of the 785 Huez RS, but the frame gains barely 30 grams, while you will gain all that confidence to begin braking later and thereby taking greater advantage of the speed you generate. That’s an easy trade to make. Using flat mount disc brakes, which is just about the industry standard now, Look has also employed their Speed Release technology which is an axle system that allows disassembly of the wheel without having to remove the whole axle as with through axles. And it offers a completely secure connection for the wheels to ensure stability and no sign of flex or wobble in the wheel, especially under braking stress.
The geometry will help get you into that aggressive position without making you feel the need to be overly flexible to make the most of it. And they have been careful to design a 27.2mm HR carbon seatpost to fit the bike because they feel it is the perfect diameter to get the flexibility your bum will appreciate while not sacrificing comfort.
Hitting the road on your Look 785 Huez RS Disc, you will be able to plan your rides without having to worry about anything except the occasional coffee stop. This is a bike that will be comfortable enough for the big miles, fast enough for the crit racing, light enough for the big mountains, and stable enough to get you through even the hairiest situations. It’s a bike built for the Alps and ready for anything.
