Description
Colnago V3Rs Disc bike frame - road bicycle made for imporant races
These days there is such a ton of high quality choice when it comes to buying racing bikes that it can seem a little overwhelming. You might need some special differentiator to convince you to jump one way or another. With the Colnago V3Rs Disc it’s not hard to find that special extra something that will make you fall helplessly in love with it. As a lightweight, aero bike ready for any road and weather condition, the V3Rs Disc just might end up being that perfect bike you’ve always dreamed of riding.
As the disc brake version of the V3Rs, this is a bike that has all the lightweight advantages with a few extra perks not possible on the rim brake version. Most notably, since this version is designed around the Colnago TFS fork system, the cables can be routed through the stem and then entirely inside the frame. That will offer a great boost to the aerodynamics, certainly off-setting any concerns one may still have about the aero qualities of disc brakes. And then it just looks so slick and pro.
For the rest of the frame, they use the same high quality carbon fiber and innovative layup as the rim brake version, though of course they have made certain to reinforce those important areas that will have the disc brake forces exerted on it, like the fork and rear triangle. Nevertheless, they still manage to keep the weight of the frame at 790 grams in a size 50, which is pretty darn light for a disc brake frame. They have hit this sweet spot weight that all manufacturers seem to want to reach by using new type of carbon fiber that offers increased rigidity by 12% compared to the V2-r, while enhancing the vertical compliance and keeping the weight low at the same time.
Design features of Colnago V3Rs Disc
Italian manufacturers typically have a magic touch when it comes to developing balanced geometry that gives you that extra oomph of responsiveness without getting twitchy. Colnago’s designers have been bold in tweaking the V3Rs compared to the V1-r and V2-r. Available in eight sizes from 42cm through to 58cm, the V3Rs Disc’s numbers show that they have aimed to pay special attention to each size so that the smallest will have as stable and balanced handling as the larger frames. This is a pure racing bike too so the head tube is shorter, the fork longer, and the bottom bracket has been dropped in order to improve stability. And everything has been optimized to work with the wider tires folks are likely to want to roll. Another marked improvement over the previous versions in the V-series is the seat clamping system. The V3Rs Disc uses a system that improves clamping force while reducing the weight. The new V3-rs clamp is a upper-pull with no fixed wedge which uses lighter hardware and is easily accessible.
Colnago has also recognized the general trend these days to ride with wider rims and tires, so they have made the V3Rs Disc able to accommodate up to 30mm tires, depending on brands. They have made this possible partially by completely redesigning the fork. Not only have they used their special carbon layup to make it lighter, the concaved shape of the fork legs increases the aerodynamics and tire width capabilities. It is also incredibly stiff for precise handling, though keeps a level of vertical flex for a comfort factor often missing in aero bikes.
With the disc brakes and the capability to run wider tires, the Colnago V3Rs Disc racing bike will offer all the lightweight performance that you will need for your most important races, while making sure there will never be a road you can’t tackle.
