Oltre XR4 Disc: A Bike for Racing Enthusiasts
Anyone who wants to enjoy the type of bike that the pros win big races on will get a huge thrill out of the Bianchi Oltre XR4 Disc. The Italian company is pretty engaged with Jumbo Visma WorldTour team that they have been sponsoring for quite a few years now, and that partnership has resulted in the Oltre XR4 Disc aero-oriented racing bike.
The designers at Bianchi have developed the Oltre XR4 Disc using the latest and greatest in terms of technology and materials. So the high quality carbon has also received Bianchi’s Countervail treatment which means that the carbon material has a unique fiber architecture and is combined with a viscoelastic resin. This viscoelastic resin helps absorb road vibrations which will not only reduce fatigue, but improve the road feel and handling of the bike. The race ready geometry leaves no doubt that this is a bike for serious competitors, though the comfort levels ensure that even us amateurs will be able to feel at home on the Oltre XR4 Disc.
Though it is quite a lightweight bike, it is really meant to slice through the wind saving you watts at the same time. Bianchi engineers used Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to refine and optimize every aspect of the frame, from the hourglass head tube to the shape of the beefy downtube as well as the aero cockpit. Having designed the Metron 5D ACR aero handlebar to be sleek, that of course means that they had to route all the cables through the bar and stem directly. By hiding that tangle of cables that usually is exposed and causing a lot of drag, the Metron 5D ACR bar and stem enhances the efficiency of the Oltre XR4 Disc, and ensures the profile of bike looks clean and modern.
Oltre XR4 Disc's Brakes for All Conditions and Wider Tire Compatibility
And by equipping this Oltre XR4 with disc brakes, that means that this is the type of super bike that you can use in all conditions, all levels of road conditions. The braking power and reliability of disc brakes is well established by now, so if you get caught in a rain storm while descending high in the mountains, you won’t have to be worried about slippery rim brakes on carbon brake tracks. Using disc brakes also makes it much easier to design road bikes that will accept wider tires, which will add to the feeling of security on wet or broken roads. Wider road tires will also help a great deal in the comfort area. It is amazing the difference 28mm tires can make versus 25mm, with limited weight grain.
The Bianchi Oltre XR4 Disc’s internal cable routing can accommodate mechanical and electronic groupsets. The Press Fit 86.5 bottom bracket ensures a wide selection of cranks can be used. The flat mount disc brakes also are on trend with what most manufacturers are using, as are the 12mm through axles. It is available in seven sizes and several stock color options.
